Paklenica National Park

The area of Paklenica National Park has an exceptional diversity of geomorphological forms. The most attractive and most valuable parts of South Velebit are surely the impressive canyons of Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica. Velika Paklenica canyon is 14 km long and 500-800 m wide. In its narrowest part around the Bunkers, the canyon is only 50 m wide. Vertical cliffs rise above both sides of the canyon up to a height of over 700 m. The most attractive part is the area around the steep drop of the stream downstream from Anića luka, where steep cliffs rise directly above the stream, forming the narrowest part of the canyon between Anića luka and the parking lot. Mala Paklenica Canyon is of lesser dimension, and the torrent running through it is much less powerful. It is 12 km long and 400-500 wide. In its narrowest part, it is only 10 m wide, while the surrounding cliffs rise up to a height of 650 m.

The pass between the Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica Canyons is formed by a very inaccessible karstic area comprising rocks and cliffs. The central part of the Park is distinctive for the relief complex of Borovnik and Crni vrh, with the valley of Mala Močila and Velika Močila nearby. In terms of relief, Velika Močila is a very interesting bowl-shaped valley at an altitude 850 m asl, surrounded by Crni vrh (1 110 m asl), Škiljina kosa (1 015 m asl) and Zeleni brig (842 m asl), while Borovnik, named after the black pine forest, stretches along the south edge.

The east part of the Park is very differentiated geomorphologically, inaccessible and wild. Further to the east, this zone of wilderness transforms into an area of milder forms around Malo Libinje and Veliko Libinje, karstic plateaus with numerous pits, the bottoms of which were mostly treated. The highest area of Paklenica National Park is the narrow ridge of Velebit, 1 to 3 km wide. The highest peak of Velebit – Vaganski vrh (1 757 m asl) is also here. The geological features of the National Park are visible in the harsh karstic around Bojinac, Vidakov kuk and the plateau between both canyons. There is an abundance of karstic relief forms here, such as cracks, groves, rocky areas, pits, faults and caves, formed by intensive action of water, as well as high temperature differences in the respective seasons.

Plitvice Jedera National Park, Croatia

The Lakes are located in the area of southeast Europe, in part of Croatia where we go from northern flat land towards a bit more elevated karsted mountain area. The Lakes are situated where Kordun touches Lika and in the valley Ogulinsko - Plascanska dolina, on the very spring of the karst river Korana - at 480 to 636 meters above the sea level, on the hillside of Mala Kapela and Pljesivica.
The road directions coming from northern side from Varazdin, going through Zagreb and then continuing towards central and southern section of the Adriatic, are bringing us just next to the Plitvice Lakes as well as do the roads coming to them from Kvarner, Gorski Kotar, Slovenia and neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina, connecting west with east, or south with north of this part of Croatia. All these directions are connecting tourist attractions of "Primorsko - Adriatic" region with continental area, but visits are varying depending on the season of the year. Respective signs at the border crossings and in all bigger city centres are indicating the location of the Plitvice Lakes and the distance to them. That is why are we always in a position of making decision to go there and stay at the Lakes, either in spring, summer, autumn or winter - taking into account climatic conditions and the time that we have.

Snowing in Italy, Carinthia and Croatia

Winter has beaten back the door. After "tasting" of October and resorts less fortunate can now enjoy the snow. Finally it snowed in France, Switzerland, but the more snow is found in the Italian Alps. Even Croatia is covered by an important layer of snow.

First to see weather forecasts in Italy. Almost all the mountains in the north of the country shine in the snow, and the 1100 meter 5-15 cm of snow fell. The more advanced above the more statrul thick snow. On the slopes of Civetta, Alleghe and Col dei Baldi snow is 60 cm and 35 cm in Arabba and Porta Vescovo 50 cm. I know on the Dolomites, the Marmolada, at an altitude of 3300 I dropped 50-80 cm of fresh snow. Most resorts enjoy an average of 25-35 cm of fresh snow.

Fresh snow fell in Italy is a good news as can be for openings that will take place this weekend. If last week because of the heats could not open slopes at Bormio, in this fine week certainly will not be difficulties, because in one day fell 40 cm of fresh snow. Thus, soon will work on installations in part from Valbella-Cima Bianca at a height of 2450 m, but lift Bormio 2000. Good news arrives and the Tonale Glacier. There was litter 70-80 fresh snow, so tracks will open this weekend. For now you can only ski tracks prepared in record time. There is more and famous resort in Italy, Cortina d'Ampezzo is opening its doors on November 13.

Near the border with Italy, the snow came in Carinthia. The Nassfeld are 30 cm and the Gerlitzen, Dreiländereck Verditz until Tuesday morning and fell 15 cm of snow. The next day the Gerlitzen expect another 40 cm of snow. Because of low temperatures, opening the season will take place on November 27, if there is no unexpected adverse events. Even water from reservoirs to cool so soon and will be able to use snow cannons. And other data have already fixed opening such as the December 8 Dreiländereck (Arnoldstein) and Verditz around Christmas.

Snow came and the territory of Slovakia and Croatia. On the Slovenian Istria peninsula, had removed 15-20 cm of snow on the road. In the many highest in Croatia, but in Zagreb it snowed. Interestingly, as Biokovo Mountains (1762 m) above the beach Makarska, were recorded -4 ° C and 20 cm of snow. Sljeme resort near Zagreb were bedding 11 cm of snow. Unfortunately, the snow in Croatia will remain for too long, probably next week and will melt
